Software Engineer, Safety

As a Safety Engineer, your focus is on making our Discord's users safer by creating systems, infrastructure, product features, and tooling to limit bad actors across the platform. Keeping users safe is an essential contributor to growth at Discord which is why the output of the team is so important. Reports to an Engineering Manager of Safety.

What you'll be doing

• Extend our in-house, real-time, at-scale, abuse detection platform written in Python and Rust
• Expand and deploy internal APIs to combat abusive content
• Build in-house tooling to supercharge our T&S workflows
• Maintain and scale out our infrastructure on Kubernetes
• Move quickly to respond to the moving target of abuse on Discord

What you should have

• 2+ years experience building scalable backend or real-time data systems
• Experience working on, and deploying, large-scale systems in Python, Rust, Go, or other similar language
• You excel in undefined environments, get excited about creating solutions to complex problems, and building on them.
• You can work with others to create pragmatic solutions - and then evolve and generalize them.
• Familiarity with using metrics to make decisions
• Experience debugging a live production system

Bonus Points

• Experience with real-time streaming data systems like Kafka or Pub-sub
• Experience with services on Kubernetes
• Experience with data warehouses like Druid, BigQuery, and Redshift
• Prior experience working in the Safety domain
• You have a strong moral compass that navigates and motivates you
