About the role:

Kong's Mesh team is building Kong's Service Mesh offering: Kong Mesh which is based on the CNCF sandbox project Kuma. Kong Mesh is a Service Mesh made with these principles in mind:

• Kuma and Kong Mesh are growing very quickly and used by many Fortune 500 companies as well as early stage startups. As a frontend engineer in the Service Mesh team, you will be working on Kuma's and Kong Mesh's GUIs as a core contributor. This means you will design, build and ship new features in both projects. You will work with the rest of the core team on designing APIs for new features and be a source of input for future evolutions of the GUI.

What you'll be doing:

• Work on the open source Service Mesh Kuma GUI and KongMesh GUI.
• Be an important voice in the evolution of the UX of our GUIs.
• Show passion and determination to always be up to date with the latest industry trends.
• Introduce new features and functionality to Kong Mesh and Kuma GUIs.
• You will be embedded in the core team this will require a high level of ownership and autonomy as your peers' primary skills won't be UI development.
• Understand deeply the product as a user to be able to suggest GUI improvements or better troubleshooting tools.
• Be active in the Kuma community.

What you'll bring:

• 3+ years of experience developing, packaging and delivering applications.
• 3+ years programming front end applications and components with Vue.js.
• Experience designing, prototyping, building and debugging data intensive frontends.
• Ability to work as a team on API specifications.
• Comfortable with git and Github workflows.
• Comfortable working with a remote and distributed team in a timezone with working hours between UTC-5 (EST) and UTC+2 (SAST).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills -- engineers at Kong write the documentation for their products.

Bonus Points:

• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
• Experience working embedded in a backend team or as the sole Frontend engineer in an early stage startup
• Experience with Grafana SDKs
• You have some basic knowledge in UI/UX and are open to creating mockups/concepts of design.
