About the People Team

As a People Team, our purpose is to drive the success of the business through the success of our people. Our ambition is to be known as the most impactful, innovative and effective People Team in tech. We seek inspiration in our employee value proposition: Imagine what we'll build together. We believe that because business and people outcomes are inextricably linked, leaders must be accountable to both. In other words, people outcomes must be Leader Led and People Team enabled. The DEI&B team is a small but mighty team that is at the forefront of driving change in Thumbtack. We are developing paths to foster an inclusive workplace and advancing initiatives in people processes and beyond. Here at Thumbtack, DEI&B is core to our values.

About the Role

You will be a key member of the Diversity, Equity, inclusion and Belonging team, owning program development and operationalizing initiatives that support Thumbtack's overall DEI&B philosophy. You will deploy strategies that support current efforts to build an inclusive workplace (through talent retention strategies and promoting education and awareness). You will ensure that commitments are met by executing on key deliverables, scheduling key cross-functional planning meetings and managing and tracking project planning milestones.

This role reports to the Head of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging. As a member of the DEI&B, you will also be a member of the larger People Partnership & Development (PPD) team, which includes HR Business Partners and the Organizational Development team. The PPD team is responsible for enabling Thumbtack to achieve its business goals by fostering high-performing, engaged, inclusive teams.

  • Develop and implement new strategic programs and initiatives aligned with organizational goals and objectives, ensuring operational effectiveness and efficiency throughout.
  • Revamp existing DEI programs to implement strategies that deepen and embed DEI into the People Team's strategic pillars.
  • Evaluate, define and track metrics of success for internal DEI programming and initiatives, conducting assessments on a regular cadence (i.e., on a quarterly basis).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate DEI principles into talent retention and development strategies, ensuring smooth implementation.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to People Team partners to incorporate DEI insights into initiatives planning and operational management.
  • Support operational effectiveness of the DEI&B team through stakeholder management, overall project management and best practices that promote execution.

What you'll need

If you don't think you meet all of the criteria below but still are interested in the job, please apply. Nobody checks every box, and we're looking for someone excited to join the team.

  • 7+ years of professional experience, with 5+ years of demonstrated experience of launching and working in large-scale programs in HR functions (or people-related verticals)
  • Experience developing and implementing strategic DEI programs and initiatives aligned with organizational goals and objectives, ensuring operational effectiveness and efficiency throughout.
  • Experience leading (or closely managing), and executing on programs that delivered impactful results, preferably related to DEI&B.
  • Demonstrated experience of evaluating programs to enhance operational aspects - showing the ability to work within timelines and manage multiple priorities.
  • Willingness to build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including HRBPs, Legal, and Communications to drive alignment and support for DEI initiatives.
  • Ability to serve as a trusted advisor to people managers and provide guidance and support to Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), executive sponsors and other stakeholders.
  • Effective communication skills, ability to manage conflict and a me-third mindset.

Bonus points if you have

  • Experience working as an HR Business Partner or HR professional, with a strong understanding of HR principles, practices, and processes.
  • Experience working in a PMO function or can demonstrate project management skills.
  • Master degree or advanced education/certifications that demonstrate ability and desire to continue to learn your craft.
  • Ability to demonstrate thought leadership relevant to emerging DEI trends.
