Remote job description

THE CHALLENGE
There's no denying it: all online marketplaces can provide opportunities for fraudsters and malicious actors. Our ability to track, record, and combat fraud at scale is required to serve our creators' needs. Eventbrite is growing at a massive rate, and our team is keeping up with the volume. In 2021 we distributed 291 million tickets to 5.4 million events, in nearly 180 countries; processing hundreds of millions of tickets comes with a huge amount of exposure, and we're charged with keeping it secure. We've built machine learning systems that can crunch through large amounts of data and make real-time decisions, and great tools that help us parse through and visualize behavioral data, but at the heart of it all this is the ability to make the right call at the right time by expert analysts, data scientists and operational specialists. Our job is to protect our customers and Eventbrite from fraud and malicious acts, while ensuring our technology and process is seamless and delightful.

THE TEAM
The Fraud & Chargebacks team is a small group with diverse backgrounds. We are a crucial part of the larger Integrity Operations team who serves a critical role in allowing our community to experience Eventbrite in a way that fosters trust, safety, diversity, and inclusiveness, while also internally managing certain legal and compliance risks associated with the Eventbrite platform. We work cross-functionally with teams around the company to solve whatever challenges come our way, collaborating with analysts, data scientists and engineers to bring different quantitative and qualitative analytical skills. Our varied experiences help us look at the same problem sets in different ways to extract real insight.

THE ROLE
We're looking for an analytical thinker with basic payment processing knowledge and an interest in the domain of risk and fraud to join our cross-functional team. You will be responsible for reviewing and responding to chargebacks, improving policies, and streamlining our dispute resolution processes. This role is cross-functional and will afford opportunities to work with both internal and external stakeholders as well as perform research and develop domain expertise in the area of chargebacks and disputes. Internally, you will work with our Finance, Risk, Sales, and the Trust & Safety teams to increase our win rates while also providing timely support to customer facing teams. Externally, you will work closely with our payment processors and credit card networks to enhance our chargeback operations, stay abreast of trends in the industry, and ultimately increase our efficiency.

YOU WILL

    • Provide necessary documentation, details, and evidence in a timely manner to ensure all recoverable chargebacks are addressed
    • Develop chargeback policies and processes to identify and minimize disputes
    • Ensure all industry regulations are delivered in chargeback responses
    • Collaborate with other team members to standardize internal dispute responses and share best practices
    • Maintain strong domain knowledge about chargebacks and fraud
    • Investigate individual transactions using internal policies and review methodologies to determine if the transaction are fraudulent or not
    • Collaborate with analysts, operations specialists, data scientists and engineering to improve our fraud prevention mechanisms, processes and tools
    • Solve complex dispute cases by gathering and distilling web, financial, and behavioral data into actionable findings

THE SKILLSET

    • Demonstrated decision making skills
    • A self-starter with a strong sense of urgency
    • Ability to spot patterns and formalize complex ideas into a well-defined process
    • Proven strong analytical skills
    • Quick-thinker and fast learner - don't have fraud or chargeback experience? We're willing to teach the right person.
    • Proactive thinker constantly seeking improvement opportunities
