Remote job description

We are NYC based but remote friendly!

Hello, World! Codecademy has helped tens of millions of learners upgrade their careers, build meaningful projects, and gain confidence in their skills with engaging, accessible, and flexible education on programming and data skills. We provide hands-on interactive lessons ranging from Python to R to JavaScript and everything in between. Our learners have gone on to start companies, new jobs, and new lives thanks to what they've learned with Codecademy, and we're thrilled to be working to take that impact to the next level.

Codecademy was started in 2011 by two college students in a dorm room at Columbia that were frustrated by the huge gap between education and employment. Almost a decade later, we are a rapidly growing, diverse team of about 200 distributed through North America and headquartered in SoHo, NYC. We've raised over $87.5m in venture capital funding from top investors including Kleiner Perkins, Naspers, Owl Ventures, Union Square Ventures, Y Combinator, and more.

If you want to help build a business that impacts tens of millions of people each year and helps them lead better lives, join us!

Codecademy is looking for a Content Marketing Manager to join a newly formed integrated marketing team. This person will report into the Head of Content Marketing, and will be responsible for producing high-quality storytelling across the blog, social media, and other distribution channels. The primary responsibility will be to write and edit engaging blog posts that build on the current content library, help evolve it, and ultimately take it to the next level.

We are looking for someone who is skilled at pitching and writing stories that resonate with target B2C and B2B audiences, someone who can speak to the tech industry zeitgeist and the cultural conversation around all aspects of a career in tech. Ultimately, this role is for someone who is eager to work with a growing integrated marketing team to help carve out an exciting new chapter in Codecademy's brand storytelling.

What you'll do

  • Pitch and write content for the Codecademy blog as well as social media channels when relevant.
  • Assign and edit stories from freelancers and help the content marketing team build up its freelance writer Rolodex.
  • Help maintain the editorial content calendar.
  • Assist with mapping out and executing on tentpole moments for content marketing, including videos, podcasts, and other multimedia.
  • Support brand launches and promotions with creative storytelling and brand activations.
  • Regularly collaborate with the marketing team, including social media manager, email, product marketing, and creative team.
  • Work on occasional cross-functional content needs with other teams, including recruiting, community, and curriculum teams.

What you'll need

  • 5+ years in content marketing, editorial, or other similar roles that require strong storytelling pitching and execution skills across distribution channels. Editorial experience is ideal but not a prerequisite.
  • Outstanding written skills, including impeccable grammar, ability to adjust tone of voice, and knowledge of how to implement clear organizational structure to a story.
  • Ability to regularly pitch compelling story ideas both timely and evergreen, as well as accompanying brand activations.
  • Strong reporting skills and ability to interview both internal and external sources and dig up credible information - and then translate that for a general audience.
  • Experience with and an understanding of SEO best practices.
  • A high degree of comfort moving fast, staying flexible, and creating clarity out of ambiguity.
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment and comfort managing multiple work streams and deadlines simultaneously.

What will make you stand out

  • Experience in both brand marketing and editorial.
  • Experience being on-camera and/or a face on social media for a brand.
  • Interest in coding or passion for empowering others through coding education.
