Payroll Compliance Analyst

Check

Remote job description

Check is a payroll-as-a-service API that lets you embed payroll directly in your vertical SaaS, HR, or time-tracking platform. Our API abstracts away the complexities of running payroll: tax calculation, remittance, and filing, plus the movement of money between companies and employees. This enables companies to easily build fully integrated payroll products to offer to their customers.

As Check continues to scale the number of companies and employees for which we provide payroll services, we are looking to grow our payroll compliance team to allow us to continue to closely monitor regulations and requirements at all levels of government. This team is responsible for ensuring Check's compliance with payroll rules, tax calculations and tax reporting requirements are embedded in our product and processes.

For this role, we are looking for a Payroll Compliance Analyst with experience researching, gathering and interpreting complex information, a strong analytical mindset, and a deep understanding of payroll/tax rules and regulations. As a compliance research analyst, you will be responsible for researching and maintaining agency requirements at the federal, state and local level. You'll be tasked with writing payroll compliance related documents for both internal and external stakeholders.

In this role, you will:

  • Research and track payroll and tax compliance rules at the federal, state, and local level
  • Analyze payroll and tax changes and their impact to areas within payroll
  • Document state requirements and communicate agency changes to stakeholders
  • Create knowledge base articles and guidance documents based on payroll concepts and trends
  • Support our Tax Operations team during quarter-end and year-end
  • Develop an understanding of the impact of agency requirements to our product

Many backgrounds could fit this role, but ideal candidates will have some or all of the following:

  • 5+ years of experience in payroll with familiarity of payroll and payroll tax filing requirements at the federal, state and local levels
  • Ability to research and analyze requirements and translate into process-driven documentation for operational and engineering teams
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to convey impact of findings
  • Detailed-oriented and capable of managing a process from start to finish
  • Enjoy working cross-functionally with members from across the organization
  • A strong desire to learn and grow within their role
  • Experience at a fast-paced, data-driven tech company, a plus
  • 4 year degree preferred

What we offer:

The expected annual salary for this role is between $110,000 and $130,000, dependent upon each candidate's unique experience and qualifications.
