Senior Tax Manager

The Role
We are looking for a tax leader to join our Pilot Tax practice.

Half of Pilot's bookkeeping customers also buy our tax services. Doing both means that we have the opportunity to provide an exceptionally efficient, streamlined tax experience for our customers, via smart internal management of our tax partner relationships and an expertly-crafted customer-facing tax onboarding and filing experience. Today, we partner with trusted tax providers but are excited to begin exploring offering this experience in-house.

Key Responsibilities

• Delivering high quality tax and advisory services to tax clients with a focus on federal and state income tax
• Playing a leadership role in managing Pilot's tax compliance client portfolio
• Supporting the growth of the Pilot tax practice by teaming with other Pilot leaders to identify new market opportunities
• Building and manage a team of tax professionals
• Finding and implementing opportunities for process improvement in company tax procedures
• Scaling our tax processes as our tax customer base continues to grow

About You

• 10+ years of business tax experience with an emphasis on federal and state income tax (sales and/or property tax is a plus)
• Previous experience as a tax manager with a public accounting firm
• Deep knowledge of tax code, compliance and procedures for corporations.
• Familiarity with U.S. federal, state and local reporting requirements.
• Strong people manager who thrives on building and growing high performing teams
• Start up or small company experience that requires you to roll up your sleeves to build and identify process improvements, create out of the box ideas to meet client needs, and ability to balance many priorities
• Impeccable verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to convey complex tax concepts to clients who do not possess a technical tax background and concisely make recommendations to senior leaders
• Obsessively obsessed with attention to detail and leaves no stone unturned
• Adept cross-functional partner who thrives on creating a delightful customer experience with other functional partners (Controller Services, Bookkeeping, AR/AP, Sales, Product)
• Prior experience in E-commerce, Technology, and Crypto a plus
• Active CPA License

The base pay range target for the role seniority described in this job description is $88,000 - $135,000 in most remote locations, and between $144,000 - $194,000 in San Francisco, CA and New York City, NY. Final offer amounts depend on multiple factors such as candidate experience and expertise, geographic location, total compensation, and market data. In addition to cash pay, full-time regular positions are eligible for equity, 401(k), health benefits, and other benefits; some of these benefits may be available for part-time or temporary positions.
