What you'll be doing...

Our Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) SOX team is responsible for overseeing policies, processes, people and systems supporting internal controls over financial reporting. As a Manager on the SOX Business team, you will play a central role in translating SOX compliance requirements into internal Verizon control guidance and enforcing a strong control environment.

  • Assessing the quality of management's SOX control testing and providing feedback to strengthen management's testing methodology.
  • Partnering with management to develop remediation plans and timelines for re-testing.
  • Understanding both business process and IT related risks to identify control gaps, mitigating controls, efficiency opportunities, and to perform scoping activities.
  • Supporting the development and delivery of training to business and related stakeholders on SOX control requirements to enforce a strong and compliant control environment.
  • Preparing and presenting materials on project status updates and SOX methodology to various levels of management.
  • Facilitating communication between our external auditors and control owners to ensure there is a clear understanding of audit requests and to identify solutions when issues arise.
  • Supporting process reviews and providing controls guidance.
  • Building relationships with business leaders, external auditors, and other Verizon compliance teams.

Where you'll be working...

In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days set by your manager.

What we're looking for...

You are comfortable being viewed as a subject matter expert on SOX control guidance, and it is critical that you are a great communicator. As a lead consultant on the team you will be expected to build trust and relationships with team members, internal control stakeholders, external auditors and other Verizon compliance teams. You know how to tailor your messaging based on the audience, translating technical topics into appropriate terms without losing their impact or meaning.

You can adapt to changing circumstances, juggle competing priorities, and combine a sense of urgency with due care and attention to detail. You also enjoy analyzing problems and delivering solutions to improve the control environment.

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or four years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience
  • Experience in SOX controls (Business/IT) auditing or compliance.
  • Experience leveraging auditing principles and methods to evaluate policies.
  • Experience with processes and systems to identify risks and control gaps.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Public accounting audit experience.
  • A relevant professional certification (e.g., CISA, CPA, CIA, CFE).
  • Experience in applying technical internal controls or audit.
  • knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Materiality, Scoping, Control Design, Controls testing, SOC 1 reviews
  • Experience in project management, organizational, facilitation, and negotiation skills
  • SOX Controls knowledge in Accounting, Disclosures, Auditing and emerging areas such as robotic process automation, business intelligence and analytics tools
  • Experience with SAP S4/HANA.
  • Telecommunications experience.
