THE CHALLENGE
Build the best event search that connects consumers with the events that matter to them anywhere in the world. Our search and discovery experience needs to delight and engage people, and help them find the specific event they are looking for or discover new events they can go to.
THE TEAM
The Search & Discovery team helps people browse, search for and discover events that they want to attend through search UI, ranking and relevance enhancements.
THE ROLE
Join our engineering team and help make Eventbrite an indispensable platform for finding the best events anywhere in the world. You'll work directly with product management, product design, and data analysts to get a deep understanding of how our users explore our inventory and you will architect the systems to most effectively satisfy our users' needs. Coordinate with Engineering leadership and drive teams to adopt best practices and infrastructure to support growth and resiliency. The major objectives and goals for this role are:Build an Event Search that returns highly relevant and well-ranked results. Incorporate user signals, machine learning and other data or tools to build a search service that continuously learns and improves. Lead as an architect and hands-on engineer across Engineering. Mentor and grow engineers to become technical leaders. Evolve and modernize our infrastructure to achieve the optimum balance of performance and maintainability.

THE SKILL SET
- In-depth experience working with search and/or recommendation technology, providing the most relevant and engaging results.
- Experience as a backend or data engineer - and possibly both, with an understanding of backend web technologies, datastores and distributed batch-processing systems.
- Many years building high performance systems and services.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and up-level other engineers.
- Experience with the AWS ecosystem and Microservices.
- Experience aligning design, product and engineering goals.
- Analytical mindset - comfortable asking big questions about the system as a whole, breaking these down into smaller testable hypotheses, and then doing whatever is required to find the answers.
- Familiarity with the basic principles and activities of data science - collecting and cleaning data; extracting and evaluating features; designing, building, and training a model; evaluating results.
- Unstoppable learner - Initially you may not have all the skills above, but you're confident that you can learn what you need in very short order.
- Efficient, practical programmer with a record of producing maintainable code
- Ability to take initiative and produce results with great communication and collaboration skills
- Passion to learn and to mentor others
- Desire to work on a highly visible product that impacts millions of users
