About the role:

As the Engineering Manager for the Hosted Data plane team, you will be responsible for designing & prototyping a fully hosted Kong API-Gateway offering on AWS, Azure & GCP. You will focus on abstracting away some of the differences between the 3 clouds at the networking (L3+) and VPC connectivity layers, developing scalable cloud specific provisioning systems, building multi-tenancy for our solution and solving noisy neighbor problems in the stack. Prior experience with VPC connectivity and provisioning at scale in multiple clouds is required.

Along with the initial prototyping and designing, you will be responsible for hiring a team that will act as the kernel around whom a global org will be built. There is significant opportunity for growth, ownership of the stack and making an outsized impact on a growing Company.

What you'll be doing:

  • Hire, mentor, and maintain healthy Engineering teams who value collaboration and innovation.
  • Foster and grow a new team from the ground up and build a community environment.
  • Solid technical expertise for Linux systems troubleshooting, and profiling, experience with debugging tools such as gdb, systemtap, tcpdump, crash, or other.
  • Experience designing, building and supporting software for large scale cloud deployments (AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • Own the customer escalation system technically, including collaboration with other departments, stakeholders (Sales, Customer Experience, Sales Engineering etc.) and where necessary customers.
  • Leadership experience displaying ability to organize and prioritize complex problem resolution and bug fixes, debugging distributed services.
  • Organize and manage your teams to fit constructively into the org as a whole and help the company succeed.
  • Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.
  • Give constructive feedback to Engineers, conduct 1:1's, address inter-personal issues, and conduct reviews.
  • Suggest Engineering guidelines, principles and processes to improve the Engineering org.
  • Assure high quality work and SLA adherence from the entire Engineering org.
  • Any additional tasks required by manager.

What you'll bring:

  • 4+ years of Eng management experience.
  • Experience managing remote teams.
  • Experience doing reviews, hiring, comp.
  • Demonstrated leadership of Engineering teams.
  • Proven customer relationship skills sets.
  • On-premise, cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid product background.
  • Experience working on an infrastructure product line.
