Senior Software Engineer Portals

Portals Engineers build the primitives that empower Discordians to bring ideas to life! We partner with teams across the organization in a dynamic environment. One week you might be working with Product teams to put them in the drivers seat to roll out a hot new feature or trying to make it easier to count all our Nickels, Gems and Coins with the Nitro/Revenue teams. Other weeks you might be helping arm our Trust & Safety Teams with the tools they need to protect each and every discord user!

What you'll be doing

• Building infrastructure, API, and UI primitives that other engineering teams leverage to build and ship internal products.
• Migrating parts of an outdated internal Admin platform towards cutting-edge platforms like Retool, Backstage.io, and Clutch.sh.
• Collaborating with technical customers, learning their pain points, and removing friction from the developer experience of build and shipping internal business logic.
• Setting standards and best practices and writing documentation on how to best leverage the Platform that you continue to build and iterate on.
• Developing new build and deployment infrastructure
• Coach and mentor other team members as we continue to scale the Portals team.

What you should have

• 4+ years of experience as a software engineer working in web technologies (React, TypeScript, Python API).
• Experience building and shipping internal or external product features. We do far more than build static pages.
• Experience with databases like Cassandra, Postgres, BigQuery, and Dynamo.
• Experience with backend web frameworks, such as Flask and Django.
• A keen eye for for effective visuals and a delightful user experience.
• Empathy for customer needs and pain and a passion for building tools and technology that help them succeed.

Bonus Points

• Experience with Retool and other low-code environments.
• Experience with CI and containerization technologies Buildkite, K8s, and Docker.
• Often think with portals.
