Remote job description

PackageX is the global logistics platform. We create outbound shipments, run courier marketplaces, manage inventory, build simple, developer-friendly APIs, and more.

The Cloud Platform team is delivering the next generation of PackageX's infrastructure. We own the information and services critical for all of PackageX's business and product lines. We ensure that PackageX runs on a Service-oriented architecture with best-in-class availability and latency. Our services are expected to scale to hundreds of thousands of requests per second.

As an engineer on our team, you will work directly with our product team and architects to build the next-generation services that will ensure PackageX's reliability, performance, and scale for the future.

The logistics industry is complex but stuck with legacy software solutions. There is a massive opportunity to become the defining software platform to modernize logistics for the global economy.

In this role, you will:

  • Work with a team of talented engineers and architects to build a set of services that can deliver critical data to the majority of PackageX's products.
  • Design, build and maintain core data models and internal APIs.
  • Debug production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack.
  • Work with engineers across the company to build new features at a large scale.
  • Improve engineering standards, tooling, and processes.
  • Work cross-functionally with many teams in Engineering, Finance, Analytics, etc.

We're looking for someone who has:

  • Experience building and operating backend distributed systems that maintain a high availability and low latency with high throughput.
  • Experience building software and systems that strike the right balance between simplicity, flexibility, and safety. We work mostly in NodeJS.
  • A high bar for themself and others when working with production systems.
  • Pride in working on projects to successful completion involving a wide variety of technologies and systems.
  • The ability to thrive in a collaborative environment involving different stakeholders and subject matter experts.
  • Are interested in understanding PackageX's complex logistics data problems.
  • Have at least 5 years of overall software development experience, at least 3 in NodeJS.
  • Experience scaling cloud infrastructure and/or leading or architecting a sufficiently large backend architecture.

What can you expect from the application process?

Your application will be forwarded to and looked at by the engineering team, and you'll speak directly with our Cloud Platform team. We will not ask you to solve technical questions during the interview. We want to have an open discussion about your work. You can expect an offer after this interview.
