About the Role:

For this specific role, we are looking for an experienced engineer who will define the software architecture for all aspects of development at Confluent. You will influence the solution and business strategy and tooling necessary to transform the Data In Motion segment. Here are some examples of the challenges underway:

• Assess and define an enterprise CI System through evaluation of existing CI systems in use, market leaders and emerging solutions
• Rearchitect our build system to go from weeks to hours for each service
• Expand our deployment automation to meet expanding needs and scale
• Provide tooling to allow engineers to identify bottlenecks across their SDLC and partner to remove friction points

What You'll Do

• Serve as the technical lead in the design, implementation, and deployment of successful cross-functional projects that yield productivity improvements across engineering
• Define and deliver developer-focussed solutions that enable scalable systems development across Confluent
• Assist directly and indirectly in the continual hiring and development of technical talent
• Facilitate technical collaboration across Confluent, increasing productivity and effectiveness by sharing your deep knowledge and experience
• Establish or join an industry forum to share best practices and attract talent
• Ensure the quality of architecture and design of systems used throughout the SDLC
• Functionally decompose complex problems into simple, straight-forward solutions

What We're Looking For:

• Minimum of 10 years of relevant, broad engineering experience required
• Proven track record of leading the delivery of large-scale, highly available, low latency, high quality systems ideally with experience building major developer productivity improvements which took teams from weeks to hours
• Experience with architecture, design and development of large scale platforms
• Deep hands-on technical expertise in CI/CD, build systems, large scale systems engineering or distributed systems in a cloud environment
• Experience driving complex projects, with significant bottom-line impact
• Experience playing a visionary leadership role within a large organization
• Experience working in a complex, service oriented software development and leading large cross team initiatives
