We are looking for a Software Development Lead to grow our Trust & Safety team. As a Software Development Lead, you are responsible for building and ensuring the productivity of the team. You will manage the development and release of tools and technologies to ensure that our millions of players enjoy a safe and welcoming experience. We believe that Rec Room is a place worthy of defense from abuse and we hope you do as well.

In this role you will:

  • Lead and mentor a team of Trust & Safety engineers across a wide variety of features and systems
  • Guide the development and maintenance of moderation tools
  • Work closely with our team of moderators to understand and prioritize issues of importance to our community
  • Advocate for users and the type of community we want to foster
  • Manage, provide guidance and mentorship in both technical and soft skills
  • Own the team's productivity and metrics
  • Work with Tech Leads, Program Managers, and Designers to plan the team's road map
  • Manage the team's release schedule and issue escalation
  • Wrangle cross-team dependencies
  • Act as Tech Lead when required

We are looking for individuals with:

  • A Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of professional development experience
  • 2+ years of experience leading teams of Software Engineers
  • Experience writing production distributed systems or cloud services
  • Experience working with relational databases (i.e., SQL)
  • Passion for building safe and welcoming online communities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • An ability to thrive in fast-moving, ambiguous development environments

Bonus points if you also have:

  • Experience with Game Development and Game Engines (preferably Unity)
  • Knowledge of synchronization techniques in stateless distributed systems, and experience building RESTful API backend services
  • Experience with Entity Framework, ASP.NET
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services
  • Experience working on backend services for social networks
  • Experience with Personalization or Machine Learning
  • Experience with non-relational database/storage technology (i.e., NoSQL, blob storage, etc.)
  • Experience working on a live online service
