Director of Engineering

Job Summary

In the last year we have doubled the number of active customers ordering each month, and in the coming year we will exceed that level of growth. In order to support this expansion we are seeking our first Director of Engineering to lead our engineering team in both the US and Europe.

We will be undertaking a full rebuild of our backend and the Eng Director will take point to ensure that the new architecture will support our future growth. Our stack is modern (Django, React, Postgres, Kubernetes, AWS) and we will continue to employ technologies that allow us to iterate at high velocity while scaling.

Job Responsibilities

• Lead our overall Engineering organization - manage, coach, and support a team of engineers both senior and junior
• Oversee a re-architecture of the Because backend and integration of an ERP
• Work closely with the Product team on strategic planning
• Bring a high level of technical expertise, guidance, and decision-making to all areas of the platform including infrastructure, payments, mobile, internal tools, devops. Establish and execute on our long term technical plans
• Provide hands-on technical management, guidance, and support including system/design/code reviews
• Hire and grow your teams with superior engineering talent, and coach and improve the performance of existing engineers in your organization

Qualifications

• 7+ years experience and 3+ years leadership experience, preferably at a startup during a scaling phase
• Have managed a 10+ person engineering organization
• Highly technical with expertise in infrastructure and architecture
• Passion for product excellence and the craft of engineering
