The API & Integrations team is responsible for continuing to push Boulevard toward being a true platform. This is accomplished by building new and enhancing existing underlying core architecture that facilitates the ease at which Boulevard can be integrated with other software. The team is also responsible for supporting a unique type of Boulevard customer, the developer. Building the best developer experience is at the heart of empowering Boulevard's platform growth.

The API & Integrations Engineering manager has the important role of managing the day-to-day engineering work, customer commitments, and SDLC processes. They will be responsible for growing and managing the team (both in-house and related outsourced), project planning, stakeholder communication, and process improvement. They will be responsible for working with the Director to strategize and ensure OKRs are met.

What you'll do here:

  • In the short term, manage all team ceremonies (standup, sprint, grooming, retro) and perform weekly 1:1s with all team members.
  • In the short term, attend required customer API calls and adequately field questions/concerns from customers using our API
  • In the short term, coordinate with other engineering managers around API needs and cross team dependencies.
  • In the short term, engage and manage outsourced development teams and projects.
  • In the mid term, contribute to project scoping, planning, estimation with the other engineers, scheduling necessary discovery and planning meetings with the team.
  • In the mid term, support scaling out the process of ticket escalation, triage, and resolution for all developer support inbound issues.
  • Serve as a liason for API & Integrations - breaking down complex topics and translating them in a way that can be conveyed clearly to the rest of the company and our customers.
  • Use a data driven approach to remove process bottlenecks
  • Use a data driven approach to trend and communicate themes on potential product, usability, and reporting gaps
  • Get into the weeds of why a problem has occurred, resolving it at its source and anticipating any other use cases that may cause the issue to resurface
  • Be a mentor to engineers, supporting individual career development plans, actively manage performance to amplify team member strengths, in addition to coaching and supporting team members to help them fill gaps
  • Measure and monitor systems to make data-driven decisions; build dashboards for KPIs and execute mitigations for KPIs trending in a negative direction
  • Support our business development team from a technical perspective, ensuring their needs are met and Boulevard can continue to grow it's partnership base.

What you'll need to thrive:

  • 5+ years of experience building software for the web on the backend.
  • Humility - Ability to learn from those around them, be respectful to others, and be able to take difficult feedback with grace
  • Collaborative and willing to participate in code reviews and pair programming. Willing to jump into the trenches if needed.
  • Clear and concise communication to drive alignment
  • Accountability and ownership around assigned tasks and follow-through with delivery
  • Displays empathy for our coworkers and customers
  • Able to learn, understand, and interact with a complex codebase
  • Has collaborated alongside product managers and product design counterparts
  • Experience: At least 5+ years of experience in backend software development in production systems. 3+ years of management or leadership experience.
  • CS Foundations: Strong knowledge of computer science principles
  • Customer Focused: Experience directly handling customer escalations and partnering with customer facing teams. Passion and Empathy for customer experience.
  • Effective Solution Building: Ability to solution process, automation, tooling, and systems to enable the reliable and efficient handling of large data sets and transactions at scale.
  • Diving Deep: A generalist background and the ability to "go deep" anywhere in the stack
  • Strong Communicator: Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills across both technical and nontechnical teams
  • Design Appreciation: Strong appreciation for good design
  • Mentor and Mentee: Smarts, humility, communication skills, and equal willingness to teach and learn

  • Experience in GraphQL
  • Experience in Elixir
  • Experience in Postgres
  • Experience building large scale integrations
  • Experience in our space, working with SaaS services like Shopify, Netsuite, Salesforce, etc.
