Remote job description

Figma is growing our team of passionate people on a mission to make design accessible to all. Born on the Web, Figma helps entire product teams brainstorm, create, test, and ship better designs, together. From great products to long-lasting companies, we believe that nothing great is made alone-come make with us!

The Figma Research team is looking for a researcher to support the organizational prioritization of strategic market opportunities - high-level opportunities that would play out on a multi-year timeline. Your research will help us evaluate emerging technologies and adjacent markets. There is plenty of space here for creative, impactful research that would help Figma prioritize long-term investments.

The ideal candidate has experience developing business-level strategy and vision in close collaboration with multiple other functions, from Finance to Design to Product. We're looking for someone who has experience using research findings to make recommendations for both the short- and long-term.

Figma is an exciting place to do research, because the teams have made it a priority to have a direct dialogue with their user communities from the very beginning. This strong, human-centered foundation is a great opportunity for researchers that want to advance the practice and do the best work of their career.

This is a full-time role that can be held from one of our US hubs or remotely in the continental United States.

What you'll do at Figma:

  • Help Figma grow and innovate by delivering research to explore and assess new audiences, technologies, and market
  • Partner closely with multiple functions to generate strategy, prioritize roadmaps, and define success
  • Break down strategic, yet ambiguous questions into a clear research agenda; designing and leading first-of-kind research projects from start to finish
  • Leverage your product mindset and storytelling chops to identify actionable opportunities and influence teams' roadmaps
  • Invite others to build on your insights by facilitating inspiration and engaging workshops across the organization
  • Advocate for the role of research in corporate and product development

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • 10+ years conducting research in a fast-paced product development environment
  • Understanding or experience working on sophisticated, technical applications
  • Deep expertise in a variety of methodologies, spanning qualitative and quantitative methodological boundaries
  • Experience supporting innovation and high-level product strategy via creative research approaches with the appropriate level of rigor for the decision being made
  • Specific examples of concrete recommendations and meaningful impact resulting from your research
  • A strong and diverse portfolio of research deliverables (e.g. workshops, slides, reports, posters) with an emphasis on great visuals and narrative
  • Thoughtful approaches to developing trust and rapport with a broad range of collaborators, including senior leadership
  • Self-awareness that has refined your skills and approaches over time

At Figma, one of our values is "Grow as you go." We believe in hiring smart, curious people who are excited to learn and develop their skills. If you're excited about this role but your past experience doesn't align perfectly with the points outlined in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.

About Figma

Dylan Field and Evan Wallace co-founded Figma in 2012 with the vision of building tools for designers in the browser. Their goal was to create the first design tool that combined the accessibility of the Web with the functionality of a native app. Today Figma is a platform with tools and spaces to support the entire product development process-idea to design to build-and has simplified collaboration for companies like Microsoft, Uber, and The New York Times to name a few.

At Figma, we celebrate and support our differences. We know employing a team rich in diverse backgrounds, experiences, and opinions allows our employees, products, and community to flourish. Figma is an equal opportunity workplace-we are dedicated to equal employment opportunities regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national orientation, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity, or Veteran status.
