OVERVIEW

We are hiring Machine Learning engineers to work on our new ML-based catalog initiative and build the state-of-the-art grocery knowledge graph. We expect candidates of the role to tackle a wide range of problems including attribute extraction, product classification, product enrichment, inspirational content generation, and building grocery focused knowledge graph. Our work allows our business to build better applications which resonate more with our customers and thus making sure the shopping experience on Instacart is extremely efficient.

The Catalog & Knowledge Graph team is composed of a group of super passionate ML practitioners. The team is focusing on building machine learning solutions for modeling knowledges related our business, enriching entities in our catalog such as products & recipes with extensive meta information, and building the next generation inspirational content platform which are tailored to the need of our customers. Our solutions are widely used by applications teams such as search, recommendation, ads, fulfillment, and our works help generate huge impact on our business objective.

ABOUT THE JOB

  • This is an individual contributor role where you will be responsible for driving machine learning problems related to catalog and knowledge graph.
  • Candidate has developed skills in prioritizing machine learning application problems with the product team, creating and evaluating metrics, proposing solutions, training models, and productionizing the model in conjunction with Infrastructure and Engineering teams.
  • You will build the roadmap for the problems you work on, and prioritize the work that best aligns with business objectives.
  • You will use strong engineering and machine learning skills to debug data, to debug systems, and to build scalable approaches for the application.
  • A thought leader in your field, and has experience mentoring junior engineers on the team.

ABOUT YOU

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A graduate degree in artificial intelligence, machine learning or equivalent self-study and experience.
  • Extensive experience in the fields of natural language processing, knowledge graph, computer vision, text mining, or information extraction.
  • Comfortable of implementing and use the state-of-the-art algorithms in the field.
  • Strong programming skills, and experience in Python, data manipulation (SQL, Spark, Pandas), and popular machine learning tools (Torch, Tensorflow, scikit-learn, XGBoost) or equivalent experience.

Preferred qualifications

  • Familiar with works related to product catalog, taxonomy enrichment, and product enrichment.
  • Strong communication skills, and have previous experience collaborate with diverse multi-functional partners across all levels.
  • Are a technical leader who is comfortable handling projects of significant complexity and ambiguity.
  • Strong engineering background, and can handle end-to-end machine learning pipelines.
  • Strong publication record in the related fields is a plus.
