Engineering Manager Developer Productivity

Discord is looking for a highly technical, hands-on, and mission-driven Engineering Manager to build and lead a Developer Productivity team. As the manager responsible for a Developer Productivity team reporting into the Foundation Department, you will have enormous impact by working directly with engineering teams and departments to remove friction and generate compounding leverage.

This team's mission is provide dependable tools - effective primitives that empower engineering teams to accelerate development and delivery. What you'll be doing

• Lead a team of engaged engineers -- building autonomy, mastery, and purpose
• Work with internal engineering teams, understand their pain points, and set a clear vision and roadmap to improve the effectiveness of the software development lifecycle
• Building new developer experiences while balancing prioritization of our existing systems such as local dev environments, build and test tooling, CI, and client deployment tooling
• Manage processes and use your technical expertise to improve the Engineering organization and ensure your team achieves extraordinary results
• Work with other Engineering Managers to improve the Engineering organization
• Automating all of the things!

Who You Are

• You have 5+ years of experience as a Software Engineer working in the developer productivity space
• You have 2+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager and successfully managed a team of 3+ Software Engineers
• You are comfortable with many languages such as Python, Rust, Elixir, TS/JS and have a pulse on the surrounding language tooling ecosystems
• You have experience working with many teams and stakeholders and have a track record of elegantly managing and communicating change
• You are comfortable writing the roadmap -- not just following one
• You are passionate about coaching and leading other engineers, but love to code when the opportunity arises
• You get to the heart of issues and lead your team to come up with effective solutions

Bonus Points

• You have experience building and shipping products across multiple client platforms (web, iOS, and Android).
• You have built open source software integrated by other developers.
• You obsess over and nerd out over your own development workflow (keyboards, dotfiles, editors, window managers, etc.)
• New York City only Minimum salary of $206,000/year + equity and benefits
