Engineering Manager

The Data Infrastructure team builds data pipelines to reliably collect, privatize, and process billions of product activity events every day. We operate a petabyte-scale data warehouse and provide tools that empower the machine learning, data science, experimentation, data products, and business analysis teams at Discord. Our work enables user privacy and product features; and is foundational to making Discord a safer place to talk, hang out with your friends, and belong.

Discord is looking for a highly technical, hands-on, and mission-driven Engineering Manager to lead a team within Data Infrastructure to help us scale to the next level. As a manager you will have significant leadership and outsize influence on the evolution of the infrastructure underlying Discord's Data Platform.

What you'll be doing

• Build and lead a team of highly-engaged engineers by hiring, coaching, and instilling a sense of ownership and impact.
• Own the vision and roadmap for a Data Infrastructure team by working with your team and partners across the company.
• Manage processes and use your technical expertise to continually ensure that your team achieves extraordinary results.
• Work with other Engineering Managers to continuously improve the Engineering organization and uphold our workplace philosophy.

What you should have

• 5+ years of experience as a Software Engineer.
• 3+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager and successfully managed a team of 5+ Software Engineers.
• Passion for growing engineers and coordinating with a variety of teams throughout the company.
• Ability to come up with pragmatic solutions to concrete problems using first principles thinking.
• Experience building and operating complex distributed data systems deployed at scale.
• Experience with open source and managed big data services like Kafka, Spark, Flink, Cassandra, Hadoop, etc.
• Experience with modern cloud platforms like Google Cloud Platform or Amazon Web Services
• New York City residents only: Minimum salary of $206,000/year + equity and benefits

• Colorado residents only: Minimum salary of $164,800 /year + equity and benefits
