Job Summary

The City Technology Demo Manager (Europe, Middle East, & Africa) presents Bird's technology at in-person product demos, with the goal of winning operating permits. You will travel frequently to cities throughout Europe and present to elected officials, city staff, department of transportation officials, university administrators, disability advocates, and other stakeholders. While you will be supported by a cross-functional team, you will ultimately be responsible for the success of each demo.

Responsibilities

  • Present Bird's technology at in-person product demonstrations with the goal of winning competitive operating permits. Demo attendees include elected officials (mayor, city council), city departments heads (Transportation, Public Works), city managers, dockless program administrators, university administrators, disability advocates, press (including television) and members of the public.
  • Travel to European cities as often as every week. You should be excited to take 50+ flights per year. May include some travel to the Middle East, Africa, or North America.
  • Interact directly with cities and other stakeholders as a representative of Bird.
  • Listen to city officials and develop an understanding of their needs and priorities.
  • Become an expert on Bird's product capabilities, as well as those of competitors.
  • Execute demos that clearly show the value of Bird's product offering. Exercise judgment in customizing presentations for each city.
  • Position Bird ahead of competitors through demos as well as strong storylines and content.
  • Partner with internal teams such as Operations, Government Partnerships, Vehicle, Logistics, and Engineering to execute in-market demos.
  • Share insights from city interactions with senior management, Product, and Engineering teams; recommend and advocate for new features that will resonate with government stakeholders.
  • 50% travel. This is a travel-heavy role, and best suited to applicants who live near a major travel hub.

Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent public speaking skills. You are able to captivate and engage an audience for a full hour.
  • Wide ranging experience across all aspects of the micromobility industry, from tech to operations to government partnerships.
  • Detailed understanding of micromobility technology, including hardware (scooters and ebikes), mobile apps, and configuration systems.
  • Ability to manage a numerous complex and undefined issues related to micromobility programs, including conflicting goals across
  • Technical knowledge or experience sufficient to position yourself as a "technical expert" to city officials.
  • Deep empathy for the needs of city regulators. Ability to actively listen to their needs and respond with thoughtful solutions.
  • Ability to communicate and connect with elected officials and staff of various political backgrounds.
  • Written and verbal fluency in English.
  • Written and verbal fluency in one or more of these languages: French, German, Italian, or Spanish. Additional languages are a plus.
  • Ability to ride small electric vehicles (scooters and ebikes) on city streets including during increment weather.
  • Driver License and ability to drive a van, for occasional transport of scooters and bikes. (Commercial Driver License not required.)
  • Passion for Bird's mission and a proven track record of building and scaling programs, campaigns and initiatives.
  • 5+ years of work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Performance experience; acting, improvisation, standup, hosting, podcasting, vocal performance, toastmasters.
  • Video production experience.
  • Background in product management, engineering, or technical operations.
