About The Role

Our communications team is looking for a results-driven, media relations strategist to help refine and execute Confluent's technical communications program. This person will work closely with the head of technical communications to lead product announcements and technical thought leadership. As Confluent defines the data streaming category, this role is critical to educating the media and their audiences about our technology and its game-changing impact on organizations. The candidate will have the opportunity to learn world-class communication practices to strategically place high-quality stories across paid, earned, owned, and shared channels. What You Will Do:

• Drive strategy and execution for the product arm of the technical communications program in alignment with company goals to drive awareness for Confluent and the data streaming category
• Collaborate with stakeholders across the company, including product, product marketing, customer marketing, and external communications, to develop media strategies for product announcements
• Partner with the content team to develop unique thought leadership angles around the people who build our product, industry trends, and Confluent's unique differentiators, and place these stories in paid, earned, owned, and shared channels
• Maintain and expand Confluent's media relations program in partnership with our PR agency to ensure the company is top of mind with relevant, high-quality reporters
• Lead the creation of product press releases with ability to simplify complex concepts, infuse customer-centric storytelling, and maintain a meticulous attention to detail.

What You Will Bring:

• 3-5 years experience supporting impactful comms programs for companies in the tech space
• Exceptional communication and writing skills, with an ability to distill technical concepts into digestible and engaging content
• Demonstrated experience in developing technical thought leadership content from start to finish (high level concepts to publication)
• Deep understanding of media relations, influential tech reporters, and the most important publications for tech executives and developers
• Proven ability to work well under pressure and willingness to embrace change and adapt strategies on the fly
• A passion for building, driving, and optimizing programs that focus on impact and high quality results
• Collaborative attitude with a hunger to learn new things and ability to stay humble and empathetic through any situation; no egos allowed on this team
• Propensity to take action with creative problem solving skills and ability to manage multiple projects at a time

What Gives You An Edge:

• Agency experience with B2B tech clients and/or in-house B2B tech experience
• Held leadership roles in product launches
• Experience in the open source, cloud, or data space
• Spokesperson training skills
