We're looking for our first Technical Writing Manager to manage a talented team of six technical writers on the Product Education team. The Technical Writing team authors help center articles, developer documentation, and video tutorial scripts. The documentation on our help center receives over 1.3 million average views each month, assisting millions of people to learn to use Figma and FigJam.

Our ideal candidate is a passionate teacher and collaborator, that is driven by the team's mission to make more makers through creating free and accessible educational content. They should have experience with technical writing, and understand best practices. They should be an experienced content strategist capable of directing an expansive project roadmap, and identifying optimizations in our writing processes.

This is a full time role that can be held from one of our US hubs or remotely in the United States.

What you'll do at Figma:

  • Manage six experienced technical writers, and hire future writers to the team.
  • Work alongside content strategists to provide input for the team's project roadmap.
  • Collaborate with Product Support leaders to align Product Education's projects to the needs of Support.
  • Own a portfolio of writing projects, and help writers navigate projects to deliver on time and within scope.
  • Maintain weekly 1:1s, career growth conversation opportunities, and other meetings to understand how your reports are doing and how to support them.
  • Provide regular feedback during 1:1s, asynchronously, and formally during twice-yearly performance reviews.
  • Develop a collaborative and supportive team environment. Inherit, but improve and refine team processes such as team meetings, warm ups, and other rituals.
  • Cultivate important relationships with cross-functional partners..
  • Act as a content editor to assist writers to craft clear narratives, provide feedback, and apply our style guide.
  • Transparently share data about the team's successes to the company through written updates, data, research, and presentations.

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • 3+ years of people management experience.
  • Technical writing experience, especially for SaaS tech products for startups.
  • Project management and/or team operations experience.
  • A strong track record of leading content strategy in a content team.
  • Experience translating and localizing content into multiple languages at scale.
  • Design skills, especially with software like Figma.
  • A drive to democratize design and development to make opportunities available to everybody.
