Basic Qualifications are the minimum threshold a candidate must meet in order to be considered for this role.

BA/BS required, preferably with emphasis on communications and project management. A minimum of 3 years of increasingly responsible experience preferably working in an academic institution or technology institution with in-depth experience in internal communications, publication, writing (particularly for senior leadership), or related experience.

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

The following Additional Qualifications are strongly preferred. If you meet some, but not all, you are still encouraged to apply; we value employees with a willingness to learn.

Communications experience to include copywriting, proofreading, with an eye toward graphic design

Excellent project management and organizational skills, including the ability to develop and meet deadlines

Experience with project management tools and web-based collaboration technologies, web technologies (direct experience administering site content a plus), and content management systems a plus

InDesign or similar desktop publishing software experience a plus

Video editing software experience a plus

Must be aware of and willing to learn about new developments in digital technology such as audio, visual, social media / networking, mobile, online communities, blogs, and other web-based technologies

Higher education industry experience preferred

The Communication Specialist is part of the UCIO office team dedicated to serving the communications needs of the CIO and HUIT.

The Communications Specialist specifically works on the development, implementation, and maintenance of communications that support internal audiences across HUIT and the Office of the CIO. Coordinates on communications with colleagues in the CIO office, HUIT, and HPAC

The Specialist proactively and collaboratively managing project timelines, and developing a communications framework, including the identification of channels, timing, and standards, with a particular focus on internal communications.

Specific responsibilities include:

Produces communications materials and develops program content for the CIO, including developing all presentations and talking points

Prepares draft content for the CIO and distributes broadcast emails

Owns and maintains the internal editorial calendar for the CIO office

Coordinates on communications with colleagues in the CIO office and HUIT
