Remote job description

Who We Are

Our mission is to make payments safer and easier for everyone. We started with a consumer product that helps people spend more safely using virtual payment cards. Then we launched a simple, modern API to make our payment and card issuing infrastructure available to other startups, fintechs, and brands. Today, that infrastructure powers hundreds of millions of dollars in payments for consumers and some of the most innovative companies in the world.

What You'll Do

Privacy's first product counsel will be tasked with solving some of the company's most interesting questions, setting the legal foundations for our next set of web, app and API products, and serving as a cross-functional partner to help the company continue to scale. The role will require you to be comfortable navigating ambiguity and helping your business colleagues chart a path to a "yes." While you'll be the first product counsel, you'll have help from our General Counsel, and Product and Revenue teams.

Some of the things you'll do:

  • Define and manage the legal structures necessary to enable our next set of API products, which will touch on payments, data privacy and all things cards.
  • Provide advice to our Product teams on legal options and strategies to enable new offerings.
  • Partner with our Revenue team to evaluate new customers, including assessing ways to mitigate risks posed by the customer's business model.
  • Work crossfunctionally with our Product, Compliance, Risk and Revenue teams to build tools and processes for an enterprise onboarding experience that's delightful for customers yet safe for Privacy and our partners.
  • Provide updates to senior leadership and other colleagues about changes in law that could impact Privacy or our customers.
  • Have fun while learning new things. Privacy has an awesome set of employees with good senses of humor, and a collegial and collaborative environment. We're looking for good neighbors to join our very excellent neighborhood.

Who You Are

We're looking for someone with strengths in the product counseling field. We encourage candidates of all backgrounds and experiences to apply, and think that a successful candidate will have at least one of the following:

  • 5+ years of practicing law, with a focus on financial services matters involving credit cards, debit cards, bank accounts, prepaid wallets, ACH, lending, money transmission or credit reporting.
  • Experience advising product managers and engineering teams.
  • Knowledge of the consumer alphabet regulations and how they apply to FinTech products.
  • Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to promptly review new areas of law and identify what obligations apply to a company's business.
  • Comfort with supporting crossfunctional teams, including helping project leads identify loose ends and gaps.

Privacy is an equal opportunity employer. We're committed to ensuring a safe and inclusive workplace by welcoming people of all backgrounds, experiences, abilities and perspectives. We encourage people from traditionally underrepresented groups to apply. If you have a disability or other need that requires accommodations in the application process, please let us know.
