Backed by Sequoia, Index Ventures, and Forerunner, as well as the founders of Affirm, Warby Parker, Allbirds, Casper, and DoorDash, Catch is a new payment service that allows both merchants & consumers to save money by cutting out credit card processing fees. The Role

As we enter our next phase of growth and scale, we are looking for our first in-house legal role - the perfect opportunity for someone excited about defining and standing up a "front-office" legal function from the ground up. Given the problem & opportunity space that Catch operates in, our legal needs are both frequent and wide-ranging (eg. corporate, commercial, product, privacy). As such, we need someone versatile who can both serve as player-coach to our internal business leads and partner with outside-counsel on unique issues as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Build the operating system of a best-in-class legal team from the ground up, including instituting best practices & processes for efficiently triaging and problem-solving internal and external legal requests
  • Oversee outside-counsel, including developing SLAs and processes for effective engagement with various firms
  • Partner with internal stakeholders (eg. People, Product, Engineering) and external stakeholders (eg. merchants, service providers) to quickly & professionally problem-solve legal needs, as well as try to "see around corners" such that we identify future challenges or risks before they come to fruition
  • Over time, determine which needs would be best served in-house, and hire, manage, and develop a small team of in-house legal & compliance employees.
