Counsel, Product

Squarespace is looking for an experienced product counsel to join our Legal team. As a key part of our team, you will have the opportunity to work with stakeholders from all company departments (including Product, Product Design, Engineering, Creative, Customer Operations and Finance) and advise on a range of legal and business issues.

The role can be based in NYC or remotely in an approved location (see application question below for approved locations). This role reports into our Assistant General Counsel based in Ireland.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal and regulatory advice to our Product and Product Design teams from the initial stages of product development to launch
• Manage the legal and regulatory elements of the design, build and execution of our products
• Provide advice on legal issues to all levels of business teams, up to and including senior executives
• Provide creative, flexible and proactive advice on a broad range of compliance areas for multiple jurisdictions, such as consumer protection and privacy
• Multi-task in a fast-paced environment and meet short deadlines
• Identify and evaluate business and legal risks, and find practical solutions to mitigate those risks
• Help build, administer and improve an effective product counsel process
• Provide support on a variety of other legal topics depending on your background and interest
• Work flexibly and creatively to own ad-hoc projects
• Collaborate with, and periodically travel to, our other offices

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant experience
• Previous in-house experience is a plus
• A passion for technology, especially online commerce
• Self-starter with great judgment and the ability to work well both independently and collaboratively
• Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
• Flexibility and creativity in solving problems and dealing with ambiguity
• Strong interest in learning new areas of law and business
• Admitted to and in good standing with at least one state bar
