Tax Operations Specialist

Check

Remote job description

Check is a payroll-as-a-service API that lets you embed payroll directly in your vertical SaaS, HR, or time-tracking platform. Our API abstracts away the complexities of running payroll: tax calculation, remittance, and filing, plus the movement of money between companies and employees. This enables companies to easily build fully integrated payroll products to offer to their customers.

As we continue to grow the number of companies and employees we provide payroll services to, we are expanding our Tax Operations team to allow us to meet the demands of tax filing and reporting at scale. Check's Tax Operations team is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely tax processing, payments, and filings for partners and companies on our platform

For this role we are looking for an experienced and collaborative tax professional to join our team and work closely with their manager and other members of the team. The Tax Operations Specialist will facilitate payments, filings, account setup, and quarter-end and year-end processes. It is the responsibility of the Tax Operations Specialist to fulfill their responsibilities while earning confidence for all of our partners and customers.

In this role, you will:

  • Review new account tax setups
  • Submit tax payments during daily processing
  • Maintain client listings on agency sites
  • Make tax payments and follow appropriate cash handling procedures
  • Lead quarter-end and year-end processing in defined states and localities
  • Resolve potential tax issues collaboratively with our compliance, engineering, and product teams

Many backgrounds could fit this role, but ideal candidates:

  • 5+ years of experience in payroll with familiarity of payroll and payroll tax filing requirements at the federal, state and local levels
  • Are comfortable researching and reporting on tax changes
  • Have strong communication skills and the ability to convey impact of findings
  • Are detailed-oriented and capable of managing a process from start to finish
  • Enjoy working cross-functionally with members from across the organization
  • Have a strong desire to learn and grow within their role
  • Have experience at a fast-paced, data-driven tech company, a plus
  • MasterTax experience is not required but is a plus
