About the role:

The Senior Director of Fraud Prevention and Strategy is responsible for leading a team that designs and implements preventative controls and detective strategies that mitigate fraud risks and optimize trusted customer journeys across Robinhood's platform. This team enables our Product teams to deliver safe and trusted products and customer experiences at-scale and at-speed, by defining customer identity and fraud controls into the design of those products and services, and continually optimizing those controls to balance business goals with ongoing fraud threats.

What you'll do day-to-day:

  • Build and manage the Fraud Prevention and Strategy team that partners with platform, product, engineering and data science teams to define and manage fraud prevention and detection controls. Cultivate internal and attract external talent.
  • Lead the team responsible for development and management of fraud rules and detection strategies across the customer lifecycle to flag and interdict fraudulent activity on the platform
  • Partner with customer-facing Product teams in order to define, document, manage and monitor a set of preventative controls across customer journeys (e.g. eligibility, verification, limits, restrictions)
  • Partner closely with product and engineering teams to identify risks in customer journeys and define control requirements pre and post product launch
  • Determine how to qualify and quantify the risks associated with customer facing products, features and journeys
  • Partner closely with the Fraud Operations team to optimize detection strategy performance in order to optimize between operational expense and fraud loss.
  • Continually assess performance of controls across Robinhood's products, services, and customer journeys, to monitor for and mitigate vulnerabilities in our control layers
  • Develop approach for monitoring and measuring the performance of fraud controls and strategies and establishing performance tolerances to balance risk mitigation with customer impact
  • Partner closely with Fraud Investigation team, Customer Services teams and across operations and engineering functions to thoroughly understand fraud attacks and root-causes occurring on the Robinhood platform

About you:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • 10+ years experience with managing fraud strategy and prevention
  • Extensive knowledge of identity and payment fraud methods, and tools and processes for prevention, detection and fraud operations
  • Possess a deep understanding of fraud schemes and experience in performing threat analyses in payment processing across traditional transaction methods like ACH and Wires, as well as on-chain crypto transactions
  • Experience in building and leading teams
  • Ability to prioritize against competing demands and deadlines
  • Ability to work collaboratively with on-site and remote teams
  • Extensive and demonstrated experience with leading and building fraud teams and processes across the fraud & risk management lifecycle
