Engineering Lead Treasury Risk and Safeguarding

The team you'll be working with: Treasury Risk and Safeguarding

Treasury looks after managing liquidity and foreign currency exposure. Their focus is on minimising the risk and cost of offering our currencies to customers, ensuring accurate amounts of funds in our currency accounts and doing this all in a compliant manner.

We are looking for an Engineering lead responsible for Risk Management services in Treasury, namely:

• Safeguarding Customer Funds to support the Wise Accounts business;
• FX Rates platform that serves all Wise businesses;
• FX Risk Management and Hedging.
• This team will be doubling in size from 4 to 8 engineers this year. You would have the opportunity to scale with the team and be responsible for shaping and delivering some of the key initiatives like:
• Evolving the Safeguarding architecture to improve the data quality controls and augmenting the platform for supporting new jurisdictions;
• Adding new partners to the FX Rates platform (which is a critical service supporting all Wise businesses);
• Revamping the FX Exposure Management in how we define the risk pools and leveraging predictive modelling for hedging strategies (this would require working closely with the Data Scientists and Analysts).
• These are critical services as they directly contribute to the Wise Mission of eventually making FX free by reducing the risks and costs associated with moving FX.

Your role in the team:

• Being responsible for the overall health and productivity of the engineers within your team
• Providing feedback on architecture and approach and helping team make data-driven decisions
• Having an overview of what's happening across the organisation and thinking about engineering as a whole
• Rolling your sleeves up and coding, being involved in the entire process. Your hands-on involvement may reduce as the team size increases.

Is that you?

• Experience leading, coaching and mentoring driven and high performing teams
• A passion for international finance, foreign exchange and payment systems
• Comfortable working on big challenges and taking full ownership of the customer journey
• Experience building and designing scalable and performing systems
• Comfortable with SQL databases, optimisation and transaction
• ...but don't worry we don't expect you to know everything!

Nice to have bonuses:

• Technology Experience: Event driven architecture ideally using Java, Spring, Kafka, Microservices (preferably on AWS)
• Domain experience: Treasury, Risk, Exposure Management, FX Rates partner integrations
