The Senior Director, Assistant Controller will be a key member of Confluent's Accounting leadership team and will lead a global team of approximately 30 employees. Reporting directly to the Vice President, Corporate Controller, the Assistant Controller will be responsible for leading the global accounting close process, establishing the strategic vision, and leading the execution of scaling our people, processes, and systems. You will own and lead the Corporate Accounting (consisting of general ledger and consolidations), International Accounting, Accounts Payable, and Shared Services functions.

The ideal candidate is a strong people leader, a self-starter, a problem solver, and is comfortable in challenging the status quo in order to improve and scale the function. This individual should be experienced in overseeing the end-to-end accounting close, management reporting, managing external audits, SOX compliance, and mentoring/developing a high-performing team. You should also have experience partnering with multiple stakeholders and functional leaders to drive cross-functional, enterprise-wide initiatives while ensuring strong financial reporting governance and compliance.

The ideal candidate is an experienced CPA with at least 12 years of progressively responsible experience between public accounting firms and publicly traded, high-tech organizations with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role.

What You Will Do

  • Oversee the monthly worldwide close and management reporting process for Confluent and its subsidiaries, ensuring that financial results are consolidated timely and accurately
  • Oversee and manage a Shared Services team spanning accounts payable, billing, collections, expense reporting, GL accounting, and procurement functions
  • Act as the primary liaison with our independent external auditors; manage the relationship and coordinate the annual financial statement audit process
  • Lead the implementation of SOX, designing and maintaining strong internal controls in the Financial Statement Close Process
  • Lead and/or actively participate in company/business initiatives including operationalizing accounting for new transactions, implementing new accounting standards, and acting as a key agent or leader in the implementation of business and accounting systems
  • Partner with accounting leadership to define key strategies, roadmap, and future operating model through alignment with business process owners
  • Drive process improvement and automation efforts to streamline accounting operations and collaborate with various business partners to identify areas of improvement
  • Develop a continuous culture of mentorship, continuous improvement, training, and access in the accounting organization. Attract, develop, motivate, and manage a high-performing and high-potential global accounting team

What You Will Bring

  • 12+ years of experience with accounting operations, including experience working at a global, publicly-traded company
  • 5+ years of progressive management and leadership experience
  • BS in Finance or Accounting, CPA required. Big 4 experience is highly preferred
  • Comprehensive knowledge of GAAP accounting principles and procedures including experience with GAAP technical accounting research
  • Ability to work effectively across time zones/geographies with key stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience leading the scaling of people, processes, and systems in high-growth and dynamic environments
  • Strong organizational, change management, and execution skills, along with the ability to prioritize and drive multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
  • Eagerness to learn and willingness to take on new challenges
  • Ability to attract, develop, re-skill, motivate, and manage a high-performing and high-potential team
  • Experience with process improvement and redesign
