Sr Systems Engineer

Position Summary

The Infrastructure Engineering Team manages the design, installation, and maintenance of Berkadia's technology infrastructure. This includes all physical & virtual servers, cloud platforms (Azure and AWS), Active Directory, Docker, Kubernetes, messaging, storage, alerting, Service Mesh, monitoring and backups. This position will require a blend of on-premises and cloud knowledge.

To continue this transformation, we're seeking an experienced systems, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and/or Microsoft Azure engineer with expertise in the development, implementation, optimization, and maintenance of our cloud-based solutions as well as the support and maintenance of our on-premises systems. The ideal candidate is experienced in cloud-based tech, with a firm grasp of emerging technologies, platforms, and applications, and ability to customize them to help our business become more secure and efficient. Extensive knowledge of cloud maintenance and advanced industry knowledge is key to keeping us on the cutting edge. This person will also have extensive experience with on-premises and enterprise solutions including server hardware, Windows Server, email, DNS, virtualization, and storage solutions. From day one, you'll have an immediate impact on the day-to-day efficiency of our IT operations, and an ongoing impact on our overall growth.

What You Get To Do

Work in tandem with our engineering, security, and data engineering teams to identify and implement the most optimal cloud-based solutions for the company
Assist with the architecting and supporting secure and expandable technology solutions in the cloud, specifically AWS and Azure. This includes, migrating on-premise workloads to the cloud, integrating cloud applications with on premises resources and implementing scalable cloud solutions using Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform
Participate in all aspects of the software development life cycle for cloud and on-premise solutions, including planning, requirements, development, testing, trouble shooting, and quality assurance
Work with engineering teams to ensure that the systems are highly available, reliable, highly monitored and easily deployable.
Design and Implement OS virtualization and containerization technologies such as Docker, Containers and Kubernetes
Design and deploy solutions, leveraging common AWS services, such as EC2, S3, RDS, SQS, EKS, Elastic Beanstalk, Elastic Load Balancer, Auto scaling groups etc. using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and CI/CD.
Define and document best practices and strategies regarding CI/CD pipelines, application deployment and infrastructure maintenance
Provide guidance, thought leadership, and mentorship to engineering and operations teams
Ensure application performance, uptime, and scale, maintaining high standards of code quality and thoughtful design
Managing cloud environments in accordance with company security guidelines
Support our Microsoft O365 implementation, including Exchange Online, Teams and SharePoint Online
Maintain our existing on-premises virtual environment including support for VMware and Hyper-V as well as the Windows Server guests
Maintain Berkadia's Active Directory and Azure Active Directory environments. This includes writing, managing and troubleshooting group policy objects.
Troubleshoot incidents, identify root cause, fix and document problems, and implement preventive measures
Provide engineering support to operations teams to ensure appropriate training and transition of new technology/solutions, as well as operational escalations
Employ exceptional problem-solving skills, with the ability to see and solve issues before they affect business productivity
Interacting with clients, providing cloud support, and making recommendations based on client needs.
Design and implement observability & monitoring solutions using Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, CloudWatch, Stackdriver, Azure Monitor
Ensure that SLOs (Service-level objectives), SLAs (Service-level agreements), OLAs (Internal metrics) and SLIs (Service-level indicators) are met
Must exercise effective judgment and follow established procedures in support of production, including on-call rotation for critical environments
Provide 3rd level operational support for end users as necessary
Assist with other IT projects as needed or directed

Qualifications

5+ years of experience developing and implementing cloud solutions on AWS or Azure platforms
7-10+ years supporting mentioned technologies as a Systems Engineer
Understanding of and experience with the five pillars of a well-architected frameworks
Experience in several of the following areas: CI/CD toolsets and pipelines, SysOps, database architecture, network architecture, ETL, business intelligence, big data, advanced analytics, Kubernetes (AWS EKS), Docker, common networking protocols and services (DNS, HTTP(S), SSH, FTP, SMTP)
Azure and AWS certifications preferred
Proven ability to communicate and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams of business analysts, developers, data engineers, data scientists, and subject matter experts
