Remote job description

Sunday is a data-driven start-up based in Boulder, Colorado, with a mission to empower consumers to take better care of their land. Since our product launch in 2019, we've grown from an idea to a major industry disruptor offering 100,000+ homeowners a more sustainable, safer, and tailored experience in backyards across America.

With support from top-tier investors including BondCap, Sequoia, Forerunner, and Tusk, and following our Series C raise, we are looking for the right people to grow with us. Sunday has a diverse team working across the country to cultivate an engaging, open atmosphere where we can connect, share ideas, and reimagine the American backyard. Our culture reflects our commitment to inclusion, individual growth, and curiosity.

Ready to build cutting-edge technology that helps people and the environment? Check out the details for the Sr. Product Design Engineer role.

The Role:

This role will have the opportunity to make an impact on both new and existing products within the Sunday lineup. This product lineup currently consists of over 100 SKUs spanning both DTC products as well as retail. Our portfolio continues to evolve rapidly as DTC subscriber base and retail footprint continue to grow year over year. The job will demand a proficiency in both 'from-scratch' design as well as sustaining activities on current products to optimize for cost, safety and efficiency. This role will work closely with quality and operations teams to bring new products to market and improve upon items already in production.

This role will be a multi-faceted role that lies within Sunday R&D and spans several disciplines. Tasks and responsibilities will include all aspects of product design including concepting, prototyping, packaging design and sourcing, and physical product testing. The job will require virtual and in person relationship building with vendors, lab-based testing on physical products, and collaborative in-person problem solving activities. Job responsibilities will span the entire product lifecycle (advanced development - R&D - launch - sustaining - obsolescence).

This position is hybrid with 3 days a week in the office.

About you:

  • Prior knowledge or experience in lawns and gardens is not required. We're excited and proud of our new approach to this industry, and thus are looking for talent from a wide range of backgrounds to bring fresh, new perspectives!
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, industrial design, product design, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • 8+ years experience in new product development. Experience in both new, from-scratch designs as well as sustaining/optimization projects. Experience in consumer products preferred.
  • Background knowledge of packaging materials and packaging design in flexible plastics, rigid containers, and corrugated packaging.
  • Demonstrated experience in Design of Experiments (DOE) and technical report writing competency
  • 8+ years experience in 3D modeling (Solidworks preferred)

  • Demonstrated ability to optimize physical products for cost, efficiency and efficacy
  • Experience maintaining a product portfolio within a PLM system.
  • Ability to thrive working in a global market and a proven track record of maintaining positive business relationships across international borders.

Other Skills and Qualifications:
