Product Designer, Design Platform

We are looking for an experienced product designer to help mature Squarespace's design system, processes, and programs. You will be challenged to help evolve our system and its adoption across our platform.

The Design Platform team creates and implements the Squarespace design system. We're the connective thread that enables product teams to efficiently design and build a user experience and interface across our platform by providing: components, guidance, support, and tooling.

You'll work with designers, engineers and content strategists on the Design Platform team, and collaborate with the wider Product Design team to refine the Squarespace design language, and evolve the future of our products. You're familiar and comfortable with the challenges of working with design systems and inspire quality and craft across our platform.

You'll report to the Product Design Manager, Design Platform. We are open to this role being remote.

You'll Get To...

• Guide the continued evolution of Squarespace's design language and user experience
• Consistently and proactively advocate for the design system, and understand the cases where it can evolve
• Design and define new interaction patterns through components, documentation, and prototypes
• Work with developers and content strategists to maintain, evolve, and create components and patterns for our library
• Ensure our work scales and flexes across a variety of global audiences, abilities, devices, and platforms
• Participate in driving and defining projects, timelines, and deliverables for the team
• Partner with and support Squarespace product designers to help them optimize their use of the design system
• Be responsible for communicating and reporting insights and developments from the Design Platform team to the Product Design organization.

Who We're Looking for

• You have 2+ years of Product Design experience developing user experiences and interface design
• You've helped build a design system that serves that lives in code as well as design tools
• You have deep empathy for engineers and understand how products are built
• You're familiar with writing documentation and educating others
• You are thoughtful about inclusive design and accessibility
• You know when to advocate for using an existing pattern and when to make room for change.
• You're seen as a peer leader, and people are eager to work with you
• You're proactive, and constantly seek out opportunities others may not see yet
• You're comfortable with a wide scope and switching context regularly
• You love simplifying designs, and the way we design.
• You're a proactive, clear communicator, that can be critical when needed, but kind.
• A portfolio of relevant design work is required for consideration. It should illustrate your involvement and how you contributed to solving specific problems.
