Why is a Senior Database Administrator important to us?

As a Senior Database Administrator, you will design and maintain systems and tools for our production systems, 3D Printing factories, and development environments. Your primary duty will be to ensure availability and performance across all of our products and services. If you have a mix of deep technical knowledge and operational business sense, can deploy and scale systems in a fast-paced startup environment, have cloud experience, learn quickly and know how to work well as part of a team, you'd be a great fit!

As a Senior Database Administrator, you will:

• Direct and participate in day-to-day production monitoring and support, including responding to and solving production incidents of different Severity levels, and collaborating with the application, infrastructure, managed services, and software vendors.
• Provide overall database technology leadership. Plan and assign operation and maintenance work on production and lower environments (for testing and development). Evaluate database performance against established goals and direct appropriate maintenance actions.
• Provide guidance and supervision to engineers, including coaching and mentoring, performance management, and organizational capability development.
• Proactively address security vulnerabilities and deliver security patches working in partnership with our DevOps team.
• Establish operational processes and best practices to streamline database administrations, and drive continuous improvement across processes, people, and technology. Leverage "DevOps" tools, automation tools to facilitate patching, and "self-service" to ease repeated operational tasks and increase productivity for the DBA team as well as engineering and QA engineering teams.
• Support application project teams in solution integration, and architecture design (for example, integration solutions).
• Develop, recommend, and govern technology architecture standards. Lead or participate in technology governance committees to review and approve technology architecture proposals.
• Analyze the requirements of application projects to determine their technology requirements, and work with other infrastructure teams to architect and provision solutions.
• Build and manage environments as required for projects. Refresh existing environments as per the requirements of projects and release calendar.
• Discuss with project teams to provide any database support in any new functionality implementations, implement the new designs, or help with performance tuning and support the project engineering and QA teams.
• Provide support for our data pipelines/ETLs

You might be a good fit if you (have, possess, are):

• At least 7+ years of hands-on experience with MySQL and MSSQL database administration
• Experience in migrating legacy databases to the cloud, specifically AWS
• Strong knowledge of cloud computing technologies, including AWS' RDS
• Experience with scripting in Shell and other scripting languages, and the ability to read code in any language
• Experience building CI/CD pipelines
• A laser focus on uptime, and how to improve it, including HA best practices, DR procedures, and graceful degradation.
