Job Summary

As Bird continues to expand, we're looking to build upon our best-in-class machine learning infrastructure to develop new and exciting approaches to smartly and effectively service current riders while finding new riders to unlock the value of every vehicle in our fleet. The models and analytical rigor you provide will help guide the development of productionalized tools and data to manage the operational efficiency of our fleet.

Responsibilities

  • Own the creation, development and improvement of existing and new models across the business
  • Identify new opportunities to apply data science techniques to business cases and derive useful and interpretable results
  • Lead in the development of data science techniques across the business such as machine learning and statistical modeling
  • Partner with data-engineering on the development of data pipelines including storing, extracting and organizing
  • Partner closely with the data analytics team to measure results and continually refine and improve models
  • Work collaboratively with product and ops to make adjustments based on feedback or shifting company priorities
  • Conduct hands-on modeling/analytics retrieving, compiling, and analyzing large volumes of data from disparate databases into distilled, actionable information and insights
  • Champion the analytics process - from business understanding, data understanding, data preparation, data modeling, evaluation, and deployment; lead by example and by training business stakeholders with varying technical and non-technical backgrounds
  • This role will report into the Data Team and will likely recruit and manage additional data scientists over time

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in data analytics or data science role outside of academia, preferably working on complex problems or key company initiatives at a high growth technology start-up
  • Experience manipulating big data, leveraging tools such as Spark, Kafka, Hadoop or Hive
  • Extensive use of SQL and ability to write high-quality code in programming languages such as R or Python including the development of ETL pipelines
  • Demonstrated application of machine learning techniques such as random forest, decision tree or KNN in productionalized models
  • Track record working with visualization and analytics softwares such as Tableau or Looker
  • Experience with statistical analysis such as linear/non-linear/multiple regression and survival analysis
  • Fluency in multivariate test design, implementation, and evaluation
  • Degree in computer science, applied mathematics or statistics, MIS, or related experience
  • Strong interest in understanding geotemporal data and the interactions between customers and our fleet

Preferred Qualifications

  • A proven track record deploying automated data processing pipelines
  • Experience leveraging open source geospatial mapping tools Active code library in Github or similar repositories
  • Advanced degree in data science or related field
  • Steadfast focus on the details, while keeping strategic priorities top-of-mind
  • Ability to synthesize and communicate complex data in a simple, actionable way
  • Project management savvy: you expect best from your peers to get joint projects done well
  • Seize opportunities and willing to go beyond the task at hand
  • Responsiveness: you deliver timely, digestible answers to complex asks
  • Constantly think of ways to improve our products and the business
