About the role

The Data Compute Infrastructure team forms the bedrock of our data stack - the team is responsible for Robinhood's large scale data processing infrastructure, analytics & querying infrastructure, as well as the data security & privacy strategy for the firm. The team builds and operates cutting-edge mission critical systems at petabyte scale powering use cases across the Robinhood product backend, data science & machine learning, as well as business intelligence & analytics.

We're looking for an Engineering Manager to grow & lead this spirited team of engineers to build Robinhood's next generation data compute and processing infrastructure. The ideal candidate is passionate about growing people, enjoys being a servant leader, is excited about the challenges of data (reliability, security, scalability, privacy, and cost efficiency) and loves to empower internal customers through scalable infrastructure platforms.

What you'll do day-to-day

  • You'll develop an inclusive, collaborative, and world-class data compute infrastructure team, in which people are empowered to do the best work of their careers.
  • You'll mentor and grow engineers across a spectrum of seniority and experience levels.
  • You'll work with stakeholders across the entire company including Product Engineering, Data Engineering, Data Science & ML, Security & Privacy.
  • You'll partner with technical and business leaders to define and iterate on our long-term roadmap for data processing and analytics at scale.
  • You'll help implement effective engineering processes and policies that emphasize quality and forward progress.
  • You'll help set and fulfill the engineering hiring plan for the team, including sourcing, screening, and interviewing.

About you

  • You have 3+ years of experience serving in an engineering management role for an infrastructure or a platform team.
  • You are curious and passionate about enabling product and data teams to leverage the power of big data technology.
  • You are very organized. With many people doing many things in a fast-moving company, strong organizational skills-both for yourself and for the team-will be required.
  • You possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • You are able to weigh several and often conflicting constraints and make rapid choices in a fast-moving and quickly-growing company.
  • You enjoy being analytical, data-driven, and fostering strong cross-functional partnerships.
  • You love helping engineers develop new skills and advance in their careers. You don't shy away from performance conversations and you recognize the relationship between constructive feedback and career growth.
  • You have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent training, fellowship, or work experience.

Bonus points:

  • You may have led a Data Infrastructure team before.
  • You may have experience operating open source big data technologies like Spark and Presto.
  • You may have experience in data privacy and security.
  • You may have used the technologies in our stack, such as Python, Go, Postgres, AWS, and Kubernetes.

We're looking for more growth-minded and collaborative people to be a part of our journey in democratizing finance for all. If you're ready to give 100% in helping us achieve our mission-we'd love to have you apply even if you feel unsure about whether you meet every single requirement in this posting. At Robinhood, we're looking for people invigorated by our mission, values, and drive to change the world, not just those who simply check off all the boxes.

We are dedicated to building a company that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills. We believe that the more inclusive we are, the better our work (and work environment) will be for everyone.
