Database Engineer

Job Summary:

The Database Engineer will perform design and development work related to all aspects of data management: data model design, ETL operations to move data from system to system, creation of message-based data flows, integration of systems via APIs, data analysis and insight generation, unit, and integration testing, collaboration with other software engineers, quality assurance engineers, technical solution owners, and business analysts. Core responsibilities for this position include many facets of software and database development.

Technical

• Unix/Linux/postgres candidates and candidates with System's Integration (Java, XML, messaging systems)
• Work on data acquisition, data import, data export, and data management activities (using command-line based ETL tools)
• Create and monitor routines to analyze, measure, and improve data quality
• Perform database development tasks
• Participate in data modeling and software design
• Collaborate with business managers to define high level and detailed requirements
• Responsible for estimation of work effort for projects
• Responsible for writing stored procedures, triggers, SQL code (for application support, reporting, and analytics purposes)
• Assist team leads by working on proof of concept and prototyping activities to assess whether the proposed architecture and components meet the non-functional requirements; reliability, performance, and maintainability
• This position will report to the Manager, Data Engineering
• Collaborate on design and implementation strategy by technical leaders
• Ability to model an application-level technical solution (frameworks, design patterns, data modeling) from business requirements

Communicative

Preferred Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Programming, Engineering or another relevant field
• At least five years of experience in database and software development

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
