ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the vision and execution of how customers find products, recipes, and retailers on our platform. Leading a team of Engineers, you will own the understanding of our customers' queries, as well as the retrieval and ranking of the results shown to customers, working in collaboration with Product Managers, Machine Learning Engineers, and Data Scientists to define the future of these pillars.

Search is a key part of every shopping experience here at Instacart, with customers building more than half of their basket through the search bar. We are a team of SWE, MLE, PM, DS, and Design pros. We solve the business and technical problems that come with that scale and breadth of use. Your work will have an immediate impact on the customer experience and tangible business value every day!

ABOUT THE JOB

• Build our systems and advocate on behalf of the customer every day on the highest volume surface on the platform
• Weigh the tradeoffs required to bring new capacities to market & ask the right question to iterate on existing solutions
• Generate the roadmap for your team in partnership with other teams and collaborators
• Work hand-in-hand with Machine Learning to incorporate and prioritize features on a regular basis
• You are an active participant in the system architecture of the platform, understanding where the surface is heading and pressure testing solutions to avoid rework
• You will develop a team sense of ownership and collaboration that reinforces the core values of Instacart

ABOUT YOU

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• 8+ years of industrial experience in DL and computer vision related fields.
• 4+ years of computer vision engineering management experience.
• Strong industrial and academic background and able to lead the team to tackle cutting-edge computer vision problems.
• Expertise in architecting end-to-end computer vision systems for practical use cases at scale.
• Expertise with embedded computer vision systems
• Good at project management, cross-team alignment, and goal planning.
• Familiarity with common computer vision tools such as OpenCV, Tensorflow, PyTorch, Keras, CUDA, TensorRT, and GStreamer.
• Understanding of tradeoffs between deep learning research and general engineering.
• Understanding of how to build and maintain a solid team.
