Remote job description

About k6

In June 2021 Grafana Labs acquired k6 - a Stockholm-based startup behind the open-source load testing tool for engineering teams. With k6, Grafana Labs adds extensible testing to its open and composable Grafana observability stack.

At k6, we build next-generation performance testing tools for developers and DevOps engineers.

We are pushing the state-of-the-art in our industry, creating open-source tools that have great developer experience and enable engineers to build reliable systems. k6 is an open-source tool that we built to reinvent the engineering principles around performance testing and enable engineers to build systems that scale.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a community support engineer to work on supporting the open source community for k6. The person in this role will be on the front line interacting with our community every day: answering their questions, diagnosing their issues, or directing questions to a team member who can help. This is a new role in the k6 team and you would be the first support engineer to work with k6 and its community.

GitHub is at the heart of our open source work and the support engineer will work closely with the k6 engineering teams to foster the community and help users on the k6 community forum, flesh out bug reports from our community, and carry out investigations. You will also be working with engineers to improve the tooling and working together with our technical writer and DevRel team to improve the documentation, tutorials, and examples.

This is also an excellent opportunity to become a solutions engineer or technical writer and learn on the job. You will become experienced using the k6 ecosystem and interacting with the open-source community. It would be a natural progression to go from diagnosing and investigating issues to solving bugs and driving new small features. In this role, you will have the opportunity to shadow experienced engineers and get help from them.

Who we are looking for:

  • Strong interest in teaching, analyzing and solving problems to help others.
  • You enjoy being part of the open-source community. Community is part of our core, and interacting with the community will be part of your day.
  • You are eager to learn and grow. The range of technologies that are involved when diagnosing issues with k6 can be very broad. You will learn new technologies as well as become a k6 expert.
  • Experience with performance testing tools, JavaScript, and DevOps technologies.
  • Good writer and communicator with lots of patience. You will be interacting with people from all over the world with varying levels of experience with k6 and communication styles.
  • A team-player who works well with others as well as individually.
  • A self-starter attitude and ability to get things done efficiently, with passion and enthusiasm.
