As a critical member of the product design team, you understand why and how a user-centred design approach transforms a business. Your character hinges on analytical yet creative thinking. You are obsessed with creating accessible, usable, world-class customer experiences. Working in close partnership with other technical leaders and stakeholders, you will apply your deep technical expertise, analysis and interpretation of consumer habits to develop a roadmap that fits current needs while also fueling business goals and future innovation. Your role will promote cohesion across all product teams and elevate design's strategic value through execution excellence and exceptional cross-functional relationships.

This role is open to candidates within Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto and Waterloo. Other locations may also be considered.

You'll have the opportunity to:

  • As a senior technology leader, maintain a deep understanding of business needs and strategy, user and customer needs, technological challenges, and competitive forces, as well as the opportunities presented by existing and emerging technologies to provide UX technical leadership to the product organization;
  • Champion the Assent UX roadmap, and synthesize the product design team's vision to deliver exceptional user experiences;
  • Communicate, document, and foster a deep understanding of UX architectural direction, including trade-off decisions, core principles and patterns, and other essential rationales;
  • Champion and communicate UX technical direction to key stakeholders, including executive leadership;
  • Cultivate strong cross-departmental engagement and partnerships to identify, define and champion how the end-user will interact with our products;
  • Leverage user insights, information architecture, interaction design, and content strategy, and communicate how those factors will influence the design processes and outcomes to Assent teams;
  • Specify UX requirements for current and future products by conducting market research supported by active and ongoing outreach and engagement with current and prospective customers;
  • Understand and communicate UX and technical dependencies and constraints across teams;
  • Together with the Manager, Product Design, ensure the success of product releases through proper prioritization, efficient design processes, and strong integration within our product development lifecycle;
  • Foster a culture of excellence through mentorship, articulating best practices, communicating concepts, and providing a path forward for adoption by the Product Design and Development team;
  • Work with like-minded individuals;
  • Be given the opportunity to make an impact on how we work and collaborate internally;
  • Be a key component on how Assent grows as a company and thought leader in the space of global compliance.

Does this sound like you:

  • Bachelor's degree required in related technical discipline;
  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in UX design, developer or related roles;
  • Proven track record in building large, global Enterprise-Level SaaS UX solutions at scale;
  • Strong Agile development background;
  • Demonstrated excellence in product design/research and a solid execution of user-centric design processes;
  • Demonstrated experience with usability principles and techniques and is skilled using UX tools for the various stages of development—wireframing and prototyping, user research and testing, organizing information, and analytics and metrics;
  • Good business sense and judgment: A clear business thinker with analytical strength, a quick grasp of the important elements, and a decisive approach;
  • A passion for uplifting and working closely with those around you;
  • Excellent verbal and visual communicator with a keen ability to convey complex ideas and drive deep understanding among various audiences;
  • A solid team player who is a consensus builder and can relate to people in all roles, at all levels;
  • Desire to apply design thinking to solve complex problems;
  • Deeply curious—continuously learning about emerging technologies and approaches.
