You will be joining an agile organization and will be an integral member in moving the brand forward into its next phase of growth. As the Senior Director of Communications, you will play a key role in leading and shaping our communications and PR strategy globally, by spearheading our brand narrative and supporting Glossier's business goals through consumer and business communications, as well as thought leadership. You will have the opportunity to have an instrumental role in building Glossier's brand awareness and reputation and work closely with key partners across various functions to achieve the Company's goals. This role will report to the Senior Vice President, Marketing and be a critical part of Glossier's Marketing Leadership team. This person will also work very closely with the company's CEO and its Chairperson/Founder.

Strategy + Leadership

  • Spearhead and implement communications strategy for Glossier across business, trade and consumer media and convey the brand's vision and value proposition.
  • Serve as a strategic communications advisor to the CEO and member and thought partner to the Senior Leadership Team across key business functions, including Marketing, People, Legal, Creative, e-Commerce, Digital, Wholesale and Retail.
  • Create clear vision and mandate for each Comms pillar: Consumer, Corporate and International; lead and direct team consistent with this vision.
  • Evaluate our global agency mix and scope, and effectively manage and scale those relationships for optimal business impact across consumer and corporate audiences.
  • Cultivate and maintain deep relationships with business press, consumer media, key industry opinion leaders and external stakeholders.

Consumer

  • Uplevel our approach to consumer comms, from our launch-dependent status quo to a strategy designed to drive culture, inspire consumers globally and expand the types of media that cover us and why.
  • Build a repeatable blueprint for a consumer-first comms approach to global expansion and omnichannel distribution, and help the team evolve to operate with a global mindset.
  • Maintain a steady drumbeat of consumer-facing news throughout the year, from product launches, events and reviews to larger brand storytelling moments.
  • Reinforce Glossier's position as a strong consumer beauty and lifestyle brand with innovative and efficacious products and meaningful experiences to help expand its audience and build its credibility as a true beauty industry player.

Internal

  • Partner closely with the Director of Culture, Inclusion & Internal Communications and Chief People Officer to evolve a people-first, best-in-class approach to Internal communications that is built on a foundation of transparency and continues to inspire confidence in our vision, mission, and plan.
  • Partner with the People and Retail teams to evolve our approach to field team communications to inspire and connect our retail and wholesale team members to one another and to Glossier.
  • Ensure that communications approach and messaging are consistent across both external and internal communications, and across our corporate, retail, and wholesale team members.
  • Partner with the People team on the evolution of our employee value proposition and positioning Glossier as an employer of choice externally.

Corporate/Thought Leadership

  • Establish clear corporate communications goals and develop meaningful narratives for a business and industry audience aligned to business objectives and our five year vision.
  • Work closely with the Marketing, Product and Retail teams to support product and retail launches globally through PR and proactive storytelling.
  • Contribute to interview and speaking prep for executives, including the development of presentations, talking points, briefing documents, and other written and visual materials.
  • Ensure brand consistency at a local level by developing and executing messaging that is tailored to each market.
  • Identify, vet and proactively secure press interviews and speaking opportunities for key executives across relevant topics to successfully position Glossier leadership as visionaries and thought leaders in the beauty and retail industries.
  • Take a people-first approach to building a compelling employer brand through exec comms and content. Articulate exec comms priorities, and get stakeholder buy-in on our "always on" approach to speaking and profile building for our leadership team, determining how best to leverage our key talent across function areas and continue to build the profiles of both our new CEO and our founder/chairwoman of the board.
  • Protect Glossier's reputation by anticipating and mitigating potential crises, and effectively managing active crises, keeping our values and long-term goals in mind. Craft and execute on a crisis communications playbook, working with key cross-functional partners across the business.
  • Land larger and outsize impact stories for the brand as it evolves into a global, omnichannel beauty player.

KPIs

  • Contribute to growth of brand awareness and consideration as part of broader marketing metrics. Define awareness within a framework of the macro narrative goals: growth, trust and relevance.
  • Determine best metrics for understanding comms-driven awareness, brand sentiment and message resonance.
  • Diversify Glossier voices internally and externally.
  • Manage, hire and lead a world-class, high performing Comms team in house over time and a network of appropriate agencies that can scale with the company.

Qualifications

  • 12+ years of experience working in corporate communications and/or media relations for a global brand, preferably in the beauty or retail space, either in-house or on the agency side.
  • Proven record of pitching and securing meaningful stories for Glossier in key business, trade and consumer media outlets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience managing agencies, and putting in place scalable processes to drive and measure results
  • Ability to counsel key leaders across the business on positioning, messaging and communications strategy
  • Experience doing scenario planning and crisis communications
  • Highly organized, great attention to detail and ability to ruthlessly prioritize
  • Global experience managing and leading international teams is a plus
  • Willingness to travel internationally and domestically as needed
